Dear Major Taylor Riders,

Thank you for participating in the 2005 Major Taylor Bicycle Race.  As you are probably aware there were weather related issues during this year’s event that put both the volunteers and riders at risk and many of the races were unable to be completed as initially planned.  Because of this the Major Taylor Organization, the Race Sponsors and the USCF Officials came to the consensus that the race would be cancelled for all races that were not completed as originally advertised.

The Race Organizers, Sgt. Russo of the Grand Blanc Police, and USCF Officials on site had expressed a concern for rider safety and had indicated that the race would be cancelled in the event of additional thunderstorm activity.  When the convective activity returned to the area it was initially decided to shorten the events that had not finished and end all races upon the completion of the lap in progress. Because of the difficulty in relaying this information to the riders not every participant in every race was aware that the lap then in progress was the final lap.

Because of this the Major Taylor Race Committee will be returning entry fees to all riders participating in events that could not be completed as originally planned under the following conditions.

• You must have collected your registration packet.
• You must have participated in a race that did not complete the originally advertised distance and was not stopped or neutralized on the course.
• Your timing chip must have been returned.

For those riders that participated in races that were completed as advertised including two of the Junior Races and the Men’s Cat 5 Race.  The results are as posted at http://www.gaultracemanagement.com and you will be receiving the appropriate medals and awards by mail.

The Organizers and Sponsors very much appreciate your participation in the 2005 Major Taylor road race.  We are all disappointed that we were not able to complete this event as originally planned.  We are happy to report that even though the racing conditions were far less than ideal, no major accidents took place. Congratulations and good luck in this seasons remaining races and in the future.
